The Four Elements of Nature
A twist on Nature's elements
This exhibition was part of the Auckland Festival of Photography 2017 and was on display at Highgrove retirement village
.Instead of showing what most people think of as Nature'e elements Earth, Water, Fire and Wind (Air), I decided to do a twist on the theme by collaborating with models who were asked to intepret their ideas of the four elements.
One of the challenges I experienced in executing this project was to find sufficient interested and committed models who were willing to take part. I interviewed and did test shots of many models. Unfortunate,y some models pulled out prior to completing their four elements and some, who initially showed interest and were chosen for the project, did not commit. The project was nearly aborted but thanks to a few late comers and changes to the original format of the exhibition, I am able to present this exhibition.
The difference between this exhibition and other I have done, is that the models had to provide ideas of how they would interpret the elements of nature and we would attempt to photograph it in that way. Some of the ideas were quite exciting, some a bit too simple and some a bit risque. I have selected images that are viewer friendly and suit the venue and viewing audience.
Most of the images were created in camera with minimal post processing. Most of the photographs were taken on location. Sometimes we were able to shoot all four elements at te same time at a single location while others required each element being done on a different day and location.
I must thank the models, make up artists hairstylists and other people who assisted me in some way and donated their time and expertise to make this exhibition possible.
